Antonio Balentin (Valentin) Rodriguez and his family, natives of La Gomera departed Santa Cruz, Tenerife on the Frigate el Sagrado Corazon de Jesus June 25, 1779 destined for Louisiana. The ship was ordered to stop in Havana, Cuba due to war with Great Britain. The family stayed there until June 28, 1783 when they left for Louisiana on the Frigate La Margarita. The family arrived in the settlement of Tierra de Bueyes (St. Bernard) and received supplies on February 4, 1784. Based on the pay records they had a child (Santiago) in July 1780 while in Cuba.
